Wonderful tribute to a wonderful band. Thank God I can say I know them all personally and even booked them on my BBC show years ago.

I will certainly link to your site from my own country pages.

Hi Hillsiders

Just a quick note from a West Virginia fan and hillsider fan from Poole, Dorset.

Just found a record of yours dating from 1980.

Good to see "The Hillsiders" being documented on the internet. But why no mention of record producer Ian Grant (RIP), who did so much for the band? Benny The Busker.

Ian Hilton said...

Thanks Benny,
Ive added some info about Ian Grant to the members section. Ive also added an interview I found with George Hamilton IV were he mentions meeting the Hillies through Ian.

Oohh I had such a crush on Brian when I was a young lass.
I used to go to a lot of gigs around liverpool and try to catch his eye, but never worked up the courage to talk to him. Oh what might have been. Good to see his handsome face again on the web.

I 196? we went to Samson & Barlows in London Road to see the Remo Four (Donny Andrews & Colin Manley from schooldays) We ended up on the top floor at the Black Cat club, Sonny Web & the Cascades, in transition to The Hillsiders.

Tell me what is happening now.

Great band and great people. I listened to a cassette today, recorded Easter 1993, with Ronnie guesting on steel. Great Buck Owens medley.

They were described many times as The Fabulous Hillsiders a title so very fitting, I was in a Band from Ipswich Suffolk and we supported the Hillies on a couple of shows. Being a big fan of the Hillsiders from there early years and seeing them many times it was great to know them personally. I chatted to Joe a year or so before he died and was very sad when I heard of his death.

They were called The Fabulous Hillsiders a title so very much fitting and deserved. I was in a Band from Ipswich Suffolk and we supported the Hillies on a couple of shows. Being a fan and seeing them on many occasions it was great to know them personally. It was a shock when I heard that Joe had died having seen him only a year or so before his death. Ash.Norfolk

Dave Ashton said...

Dave Ashton I remember the Hillies all crammed into my front room after a gig in Knutsford. ( minus Joe). I was showing Ronnie Bennett my Lloyd green collection. Brian was tasting whisky with tea added. Kevin was singing to my Red Sovine record. The ever faithful Transit parked outside. Great memories.

Radio Merseyside did Kenny proud with all current presenters playing his music and interviews after the sad news of his passing. I hope they will continue to do so as he and The Hilsiders were a credit to the city of Liverpool

There was a huge turn out for the Funeral of Kenny Johnson on Wednesday 4th November. People came from far and wide to attend. Lots of faces from the the Country Music Scene over the years were there to pay their respects to this Legend. Kenny's Daughter Audra and his Son Glenn should feel so proud of the wonderful send off they gave their Dad. RIP Kenny

Just found this site - Wonderful x. Loved watching these guys (late 60's) My Hubbies band played quite a few times with them (Dixie Land Southport) My Hubby (pinched a few of these songs :-)) He Loved it when they were listed with the Hillsiders. For anyone who followed the Hillsiders you may have been fortunate enough to also see 'Carl Fenton Country' My Hubby was Martyn 6'5 tall, played Lead specialised in Johnny Cash songs.
